Douglas Ramsay Psychotherapy & Counselling

Doug Ramsay: I am a UKCP registered, Integrative psychotherapist and counsellor in Norwich, Norfolk.

I am an Integrative psychotherapist and counsellor working in Norwich, Norfolk. I offer a safe and confidential environment in which to explore whatever issues that might be causing you problems, whether that is difficult levels of anxiety, depression, problems in relationship or perhaps a sense of lack of fulfilment.

I have been working as a psychotherapist and counsellor for 20 years and have worked with people experiencing all kinds of difficulty. I work with adults and adolescents on a one-to-one basis, for either brief and solution focused work or for longer term psychotherapy. I also provide couple counselling and clinical supervision.

I am experienced in helping people who have encountered difficulties with :

  • Stress
  • Relationships
  • Panic Attacks
  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement
  • Redundancy
  • Depression
  • Addiction

I trained at The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (external link), which provided me with rigorous study and personal experience of Integrative Psychotherapy. This means that in conjunction with the in-depth study of the theory and practice of clinical work, as a trainee I had personal psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy is a term that is used for a variety of psychological therapies but can be used more specifically to describe meeting with a therapist, once or more times a week. The focus of the work would be addressing the person’s specific issues within a wider context, accounting for the different aspects of a person’s character, their history or key life events.

Counselling, again can be used to describe a variety of psychological work but can be also used to describe shorter therapeutic work, centering around a specific issue or a traumatic or challenging experience such as a redundancy or divorce.

Although I trained as a psychotherapist I have much experience of working within a shorter term framework, addressing specific issues and am happy to work in this way. Brief and focal therapy can benefit from the breadth and depth of psychotherapeutic ideas in that they can provide a variety of useful perspectives on the specific problem.

My practice is close to Norwich city centre, a short walk from Norwich Bus Station, with easy access from the the surrounding areas of Norfolk, Suffolk and East Anglia, and from Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Wymondham and Diss. I am back working face to face now but I can meet through Zoom if preferred. I also offer telephone counselling.

For further information about my psychotherapy/counselling services or to make an appointment, you can contact me either by phone or by email.
